“If
“La Parota” is built we won’t have anything
to live for, because all of us will be without work, without
food, and homeless, every thing will be lost, everything
will die; the trees, the palms, the lemon and specially
the small amount of fish that we catch. Says Albertina Florencio,
48, very worried. She is a neighbor of “La Tasajera”
a small town in Aguascalientes.
Albertina
is one of the 250 people who left their jobs, thier homes
and everything with the only purpose of being at the complaints
and alternate activities to the “World Water Summit
” which started last Thursday 16th in Mexico city.
Albertina
says she lives from the field and that she doesn´t
know how many people is being affected but they are too
many, and she can assure they are afraid Fox´s government
build the dike because it will intubate all the water from
papagayo´s river, a very important source in the zone.
Alter
her participation in the march with another 15 thousand
people, she and the other farmers and fishers from Aguascalientes
and Guerrero spend the night at the Revolution monument
in Mexico City.
Albertina
says she has been fighting since 3 years ago “sometimes
we are scared because police has weapons and we don’t”
says.
Dionisio
Hernandez Marcos, 54 born in Dos Arroyos Guerrero, denounced
that since 3 years they started the protest against the
construction and they have been checking constantly the
zone to avoid the machines start their works.
“They
started the Works but a judge gave the order to stop the
work and ever since then we are keeping the protest because
what they are doing is not fair, it will be terrible for
20 thousand people” says convinced.
Paula
Quiñones del Carmen, 26, denounces that there had
been two dead men already due to this problem: Tomas Cruz
Zamora and Eduardo Maya “who were murdered for being
part of this protest but we can’t prove anything”.
The
store of the construction of this dike has been in the media
for a few years but in the present the authorities have
done nothing, to solve the problem.
The
march was last Thursday and more than 360 organizations
were part of it, they came from places lake Michoacan, Guerrero,
Coahuila, Quintan Roo, Tlaxcala, Puebla, Chihuahua, Hidalgo
and of course the state of Mexico and Mexico city.
Xochil
Campos, 46, indigenous of Puebla, assure that the problem
of water in her region is serious and affects also the State
of Veracruz. She asked to the president Vicente Fox “to
go to the mountain range so he could see how hard it is
and convince himself to don’t give the water to the
big companies as he wants to do it”.
“Certanly
Fox is finishing off with the farmer towns and he doesn’t
care the way we die of starvation and that’s why we
won’t let them build La Paorta even if we have to
lose our lives in that” said Hernandez Marcos.
